A Virtual World Simulation for Learning  Conflict Resolution and Decreasing Violence in Society

"A Clash of Cultures" (CoC) is a revolutionary concept in virtual simulation where people can learn about the history of Western civilization (which ws filled with conflict), and also develop conflict resolution skills. It is a simulated world where people learn to solve problems without the violence, without "being a bully" to get your way, and without the need for killing an "enemy".  This concept makes the game available for family entertainment and for use in educational settings.   In addition it may be more appealing to female players and the older generation than the normal genre of games.

Three years of pre-design research are behind this virtual world project.  A 50 page research report has been produced to support this project.  There is an additional emphasis on  compassionate, cooperative, play.  The idea is based on practicing compassion as a replacment for aggression.  Ongoing research into teaching compassion can be found at www.CompassionSpace.com

As the name implies, A Clash of Cultures, places participants into a virtual world environment in the Fertile Crescent (Middle East) where there are many cultures (15 of them).  These cultures will all be striving for domination over technology developments, resource control, and land expansion.  This, and different ideologies, will lead to a "clash" between cultures.  Participants will need to decide how to react to such a "clash". It will be a world filled with "real" people who are in control of their avatar (a computer generated person).  This avatar will have many choices to make and all actions relate to the development of their unique conflict resolution skills.  Families, or classrooms, even entire schools or organizations, can develop their own communities.  Each community can learn what it takes to build a civilization and resolve conflict without the mindless violence so prevalent in society. This format opens the CoC world to a broad audience while teaching two important messages - learn from history and become skilled at resolving conflict -- all while enjoying the challenges of the game.

This is a very large and complex project.  If you would like to volunteer to help develop or fund this, then click on the email button to contact us.
There is a link at the bottom of this page to the "Concept Art" page which has photo albums showing what many of the objects in the CoC world might look like.
Below are some photos of 3d computer generated terrain and objects, Concept Art, that serve as examples of what we hope the project will eventually look like.    Eventually we will have terrain that is based on actual terrain.  Below the terrain is only a 3d artistic example of a river bank, a mountain spring and a desert similar to the region. Vegetation native to the Fertile Crescent, the region which gave birth to Western civilization, is shown in the examples below.
Hundreds of "concept art" drawings for the Clash of Cultures world have been made. To see examples just click here -> ->
In addtion to great looking naturalistic scenery, there will be buildings that appoximate the history of the time, or the myths of that era, and people in dress that approximate that time period.  These are shown in the next two photos and on the concept art page.
